Description

Holly Grove House is a house dating from approximately 1800, built for Sykes of Wrigley Mill. Constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone, it features a slate roof. The house is of a double-depth, central-staircase plan, with three storeys and a single-storey wing to the right. It has a projecting plinth, string courses, and raised quoins. The central door, with etched glass panes, is topped by a fanlight, an open pediment on pilasters, and a stepped approach. Bays 1 and 3 have two-light, flat-faced stone mullion windows fitted with 20th-century casements, while bay 2 has windows with square-cut surrounds. A round-headed gable window is present, incorporating a keystone and impost blocks. The wing to the right is a reconstructed cottage, formerly located at the rear, and includes a round-headed, rusticated door surround with a keystone. The rear elevation has a central, three-storey high, round-headed stair window, flanked by five-light recessed, flat-faced stone mullion windows on each floor.
