Description
These stone cottages, located opposite No. 2 on Horest Lane in Saddleworth, date from the late 18th century and were originally four back-to-back cottages, now converted into three. They are constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and feature a graduated stone slate roof.
The first two bays are two-storey, two-bay back-to-back houses, while the third bay, which was formerly a back-to-back, is now a double-depth house. Each bay on both floors includes a four-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion window. There are doors between the bays, with the left door having a square-cut surround and the right door obscured by a 20th-century porch.
The cottages have two ridge chimney stacks and a blocked door on the gable. The rear elevation features ground floor windows with four, five, and three lights, and six-light windows on the first floor, similar to those at the front. The rear also has a 20th-century porch that obscures a square-cut door surround.
