Description
Lane Cottage is a house that features a datestone marked "1639," but it likely dates from the mid-18th century and underwent significant restoration in 1900. The building is constructed of watershot squared rubble and has a graduated stone slate roof. It is a two-bay, two-storey house with a later wing added to the rear right and a lean-to at the back. The exterior includes quoins and a projecting plinth. The central door has a square-cut surround, and there are three 2-light double-chamfered cavetto-moulded stone mullion windows on the ground floor, although only one retains its original form. The windows have applied hoodmoulds. On the first floor, there are two similar but altered windows. The first bay features a gabled roof with a ball finial, while the second bay has a coped parapet. There is a blocked door to the left and at the rear. The rear has altered double-chamfered mullion windows, but most openings appear to date from 1900. A gable chimney stack is present, and the interior has been much altered.
