Description

Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Starting Chair are a group of three houses and a farm outbuilding, probably a granary, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The houses are arranged in a range of double-depth. No. 1 has a square-cut door surround, while Nos. 2 and 3 have rusticated surrounds with keystone lintels. The ground floor windows consist of 6, 6 and 3 lights respectively, and the first floor windows have five 3-light openings. All windows feature recessed flat-faced mullions. Shaped eaves gutter brackets are present. Brick ridge chimney stacks and coped gables are also visible. The rear elevation has 2, 3 and 4-light windows.
