Description
Thurstons and the adjoining barn is a house and barn located on Saddleworth Ridge Lane, dating from the late 18th century. The house is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It is a two-bay, two-storey structure with a continuous rear outshut and the barn positioned at right angles to the rear.
The central door, which is obscured by a 20th-century porch, is flanked by five and four-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows, although one light is blocked. On the first floor, there is an eleven-light workshop window, with two lights also blocked. The house has gable chimney stacks and includes one, two, and three-light windows in the gables.
The barn features quoins and has opposed cart entries with a chamfered dressed surround, along with a shippon door at the lower end. The barn's gables are coped with kneelers, and there is a small extension to the gable.
