Description
Rochdale Canal Lock Number 83, located to the east of Tariff Street, is a canal lock built around 1800 for the Rochdale Canal Company. It is currently disused and constructed from coursed squared sandstone with wooden gates. The lock chamber has a width of 14 feet and features pairs of gates, along with a ladder positioned in the center of the north side. This lock is part of a group that includes Brownfield Mill, Binns Place, and the towpath ramp opposite.
