Description
Rochdale Canal Lock Number 82, located to the east of Great Ancoats Street in Manchester, is a canal lock built around 1800 for the Rochdale Canal Company. The lock is currently disused and constructed from coursed squared sandstone. It features a chamber that is 14 feet wide, although the former pairs of gates are now missing. A weir has been inserted at the upper end, and there is a 20th-century road bridge over the lower end. This lock is part of a group that includes former cotton mills on Redhill Street and is one of a series of 15 similar locks.
