Description
The statue of Oliver Cromwell, dated 1875, is located approximately 100 meters east of Wythenshawe Hall in Wythenshawe Park, Manchester. This bronze statue stands on a grey granite plinth and pedestal. The square plinth consists of four steps, leading up to a pedestal designed to resemble a tall, roughly-hewn rock. The pedestal features two lettered panels: the upper panel is inscribed with "OLIVER / CROMWELL / BORN 1599 / DIED 1658," while the lower panel reads "ELIZABETH HEYWOOD TO THE CITIZENS OF MANCHESTER." The statue depicts a large figure of Cromwell stepping forward, dressed in gartered uniform, with his hat placed beside his feet.
