Description

The Vicarage of the Church of St Michael and All Angels is a rectory located on the south side of the church in Northenden, built in 1937, likely by architect N.F. Cachemaille-Day. It is constructed of red brick in header bond with concrete dressings and features concrete slab roofs. The building has a linear plan divided into two parts, with a set-back link to the church. The design is modern, characterized by flat roofs on two levels and two unequal storeys, with the ground floor being lower.

The main range has a symmetrical three-window facade, while the left side features a lower five-window link, and there is a single-storey garage on the right, all visually unified by a continuous plat-band above the ground-floor openings. The main entrance is a recessed doorway in the center, flanked by shallow curved three-light windows, with small two-light windows at each corner, all having run-out sills. On the first floor, there are three small widely spaced two-light windows with run-out sills and lintels, topped by a high plain parapet.

The linking range to the left includes a square flat-roofed porch at the angle with the church, a plain doorway to the right, three small windows at ground level, and five above, similar to those in the main range, with projected roof-slab eaves. The east (garden) front steps forward from left to right in four bays, featuring three, four, five, and six-light windows, some of which are curved at the corners. The interior has not been inspected. The vicarage forms a group with the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
