Description
Nos. 98 to 116 on Deansgate is a department store built in 1939 by J.S. Beaumont. The building features a steel frame with cladding made of Portland stone and glass, and it has a large rectangular plan situated on an island site. It is designed in the International functionalist style and is likely six storeys tall, with seven bays and chamfered corners. The upper floors cantilever out over the ground floor, and there is no external indication of different levels. The bays are separated by plain pilaster strips, with each bay divided by narrow full-height mullions, creating three continuous vertical strips of multi-paned glazing, with single glazed strips on either side of the centre. The building has a set-back parapet with metal railings, and the other sides are similar in design. The interior has been altered.
