Description

The Sawyers Arms Public House is a late 19th-century building located on Deansgate in Manchester. It features a stucco exterior on brick with glazed terracotta dressings and a slate roof. The building has an irregular plan with a rounded corner facing John Dalton Street and showcases an eclectic architectural style with some classical elements. It stands three storeys tall over cellars, with a façade consisting of five, three, and two bays. The ground floor is adorned with pilasters made of heavily ornamented deep red glazed terracotta, connected by a dentilled frieze of the same material. The upper floors display raised bands and sash windows set in moulded architraves, some of which have pediments. The central pair of windows on the Deansgate façade is linked by balustraded balconies and a single pediment. The building is topped with a cornice and blocking course, and it has a hipped roof with no visible chimneys.
