Description
No. 56 on Faulkner Street is a textile warehouse that has been converted into a restaurant. It is believed to have been built in 1868 by J. Feer and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It has an L-shape, consisting of a range that runs parallel to the street and a long rear wing. The structure includes a basement and three storeys, featuring four bays, with the first bay being wider and slightly set back. There is a sandstone plinth and brick pilasters on the ground and upper floors, except for the first bay. Moulded cornices are present over the ground and second floors.
On the ground floor, there are segmental-headed openings with keystones, a doorway to the left, the first window has been altered to serve as a doorway, and the remaining windows are sashed. The upper floors have narrow coupled segmental-headed sashed windows, and between the first and second bays, there is a large vertical projecting sign that reads "FUNG SING." The rear and interior of the building have not been inspected. This building is part of a significant group of structures and is included for its group value.
