Description

Philips Park Conservatory was built shortly after 1800 by the Philips family. The structure is made of ashlar stone and features a front with five large vertical windows that have glazing bars, with the center window slightly projecting under a pediment. It has projecting moulded eaves and a glazed roof that includes a circular lantern. Inside, there is a semi-circular recess at the rear that houses two marble sculptured portrait groups of the Misses Philips as children. One of these is dated '1866' on its pedestal, while the other, from around 1862, stands at floor level. The artists of these sculptures are W R Price and Mary Moorman, depicting Anna Maria Philips.
