Description

Clifton Aqueduct is a canal aqueduct over the River Irwell, built in 1796 by engineers Charles Roberts and John Nightingale. It features dressed stone and brick arches, with three segmental arches that have keystones resting on triangular-ended cutwaters. Above these cutwaters are flat pilasters. On the east side, there is a 20th-century brick parapet that is grooved for stop planks. The canal is now disused.
