Description
Broxups is a 17th-century building with a symmetrical front that dates from the later 18th century, along with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of brown brick and has two storeys, featuring four nearly-flush sash windows. The entrance includes a six-panel door with fielded upper panels and a fanlight adorned with metal radial bars in a Gothick pattern. The doorcase is supported by Tuscan half-columns and topped with an open pediment. Inside, there is a 17th-century staircase with a closed string and shaped, flat balusters, and the doors are made up of six fielded panels. The first floor contains 18th-century mantels, while the rest are modern. The cellar features wide bevelled beams. A license for non-conformist preaching was granted to the occupant William Walker in 1672, which is linked to the origin of Stand Unitarian Chapel. There is a parallel rear range known as Beech House, which is in separate ownership and is not of special interest.
