Description
Bate's Houses is a terrace of six houses located on the north side of Salford Road in Bolton, dating from the late 18th century. The houses are constructed of brick and feature a heavy slate roof. The terrace is low, with two storeys and a five-window range, along with an additional unit on the right that is partially hidden by late 19th-century buildings at right angles to it. Each house has a single unit plan, with doorways and windows that have largely been renewed but remain in their original openings, which have flat painted stone heads. There are end wall stacks, and the right-hand dwelling appears to be from a separate phase, with only its gable wall visible, which has 20th-century render. This gable features three renewed windows and a datestone, also renewed, indicating the year 1793 at the apex. The interior has not been inspected.
