Description
Nos. 791 and 793 on Manchester Road are a pair of houses that were originally built as a school for colliers' children in 1835. The building is made of painted brick with stone dressings and features both stone slate and slate roofs. It is a single storey structure with four bays, where the fourth bay is recessed and lower than the others. The first three bays have a cornice, blocking course, and a stone slate roof, while the fourth bay has a slate roof.
The first and third bays contain sashed windows with single glazing bars and lintels that have label moulds. The second bay features a window with a small-paned casement and a dated lintel, along with a label mould over the entrance, which has a studded door. The fourth bay has a sashed window without glazing bars and an entrance with a label mould. Additionally, the right side of the building has a pointed window with Y-tracery casement. There is a lateral stack on the left return and a stack located at the rear of the ridge of the fourth bay.
