Description
The George Marsh Memorial is located in St Mary's churchyard in Deane and was erected in 1893. It is made of rough boulder stone and features an inscription along with a Celtic-style wheel cross adorned with scroll work in low relief on each face. The inscription notes that the stone originally stood on New York Road in Deane and was moved to its current location by the local inhabitants in 1893. Additionally, it commemorates George Marsh, a martyr who was burned at Chester on April 24th, 1555, and was erected by H.S.P, the vicar, in 1893.
