Description

The Old Warps, located in Victoria Park, is an early 19th century mansion that now serves as the Borough Maternity Home. It is set within extensive grounds that form part of a public park adjacent to a loop of the River Mersey. The building features a stucco exterior and a slate roof with hips, a parapet, and a wooden eaves cornice. It is two storeys tall with a slight central projection that includes a pediment and pilasters at the corners. The main entrance consists of two-panel double doors flanked by sidelights, topped with a segmental-arched fanlight that has glazing bars, and is sheltered by a porch supported by two pairs of Ionic columns. There are six windows on the ground floor and seven above, most of which are new casements.
