Description

The Church of St Elphin, located on Church Street in Warrington, is a Grade II* listed building. It features medieval fragments, including a chancel, primarily from the 14th century. The main structure of the church was constructed between 1859 and 1867 by architects Frederick and Horace Francis, and it is considered one of their finest works. The church has a wide nave, wide aisles, a crossing tower, and a tall spire. Notable interior features include an elaborate organ screen created in 1908 by William and Segar Owen, some stained glass by Pugin, and various medieval monuments alongside others from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The Church of St Elphin, along with the Ring o' Bells Public House and Nos. 131 to 137, and the cobbled approach and gateway, forms a cohesive group with Nos. 142 to 160 on the same street.
