Description
No. 80 Buttermarket Street is a late 18th century house that has a school added at the rear. The building is two storeys high, constructed of brick with a slate roof, featuring a stone eaves cornice and a single string course. The central entrance is flanked by three-quarter Roman Doric columns and topped with a pediment, along with a semi-circular fanlight that has intersecting glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two sash windows, while the upper floors have three sash windows each, all with flat brick arched heads and stone sills. The upper windows are tiled and contain 24 panes, with the central first-floor window featuring a cornice. This building is part of a group that includes the Cross Keys Public House, Nos. 80 to 84 (even), the Roman Catholic Church of St Mary, the Trustee Savings Bank, and No. 95, along with buildings dated 1817 and Nos. 2 to 6 (even) Dial Street.
