Description
Nos 82 and 84 Buttermarket Street are a pair of adjoining houses, built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are three storeys high, constructed of brick with a slate roof, featuring a wooden eaves cornice and a single stone string course. The houses have plain sash windows that include glazing bars, flat brick arched heads, and stone sills.
No 82 features an eight-panel door, fluted three-quarter Roman Doric columns, and a semi-circular fanlight with a fret, all set within a semi-circular arched opening. No 84 has a later 19th-century stone porch on its left-hand return wall.
These buildings are part of a group that includes the Cross Keys Public House, Nos 80 to 84 (even), the Roman Catholic Church of St Mary, the Trustee Savings Bank, and No 95, along with the building dated 1817 at Nos 2 to 6 (even) Dial Street.
