Description
Nos 76 to 82 Sankey Street is a block of three shops built in 1907 in the Norman Shaw style by Wright, Garnett and Wright. The building features red brick construction with a gabled roof and a dentilled cornice at the ground floor, although No 78 has been altered. The first floor includes oriel windows with small panes, stuccoed ornamented panels, and ornamented gables, all dated 1907. An attic storey is situated above. No 76 extends around the corner into Legh Street, while No 80 is adjacent to the Education Office. This group of buildings also includes Nos 76 to 86, which comprise the Borough Treasurer's Office and Bank House, along with the Town Hall and its eastern and western outbuildings, entrance gates, piers, and lamps, forming a cohesive group with Nos 73, 101A, and 101B.
