Description
Tanyard House is an early 18th-century farmhouse located on Well Lane in Stretton. The building is constructed of brick, with a pebbledashed finish added in the late 20th century, and features a graded grey slate roof along with flush brick chimneys at each gable. It has two storeys plus attics and includes two windows. The windows are replacement near-flush 6-pane casements with stone sills, while the entrance features a boarded door situated under an open porch supported by shaped brackets, likely dating from the late 19th century. At the rear, there is one leaded window, probably from the early 18th century.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts oak purlins and numerous chamfered oak beams, as well as broad-board doors fitted with 18th-century H-hinges and old latches. A notable feature is the good 19th-century pine dog-leg staircase, which includes two early 18th-century oak balusters and a rail leading to the top landing. There are openings between the staircase and the back attic bedrooms, and windows to the attics were introduced in the mid-20th century.
