Description

The remains of Rock Savage are the remnants of a mansion built in 1565 for Sir John Savage. The structure was made of sandstone and was located on the site of the earlier Clifton Hall. Rock Savage was replaced by a later building of the same name in the 18th century, and by 1782, it was already abandoned and in a state of disrepair. Today, only fragments of sandstone walling remain to indicate the position of the original 1565 house.
