Description

Marshgate Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the later 17th century to mid-19th century. The structure features a brick-nogged oak frame that has been partly rebuilt in brown brick, topped with a graded grey slate roof. The building is two storeys high. The cross-wing on the right has a front that dates to around 1830, which includes a wood casement window on the lower storey and a horizontal sliding sash window on the upper storey. The gable ends, which are not bonded to the front, have been rebuilt in sandstone and brick over time, likely from the 17th to the 18th century, and there is a flush gable chimney on the left. The long oak-framed wing, which has also been partly rebuilt in brick, features small framing made of heavy timbers, jowled corner posts in the gable end, and a large cambered tie-beam with braces beneath the eaves. The casement windows are probably from the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected.
