Description

George Gleave's Bridge is an accommodation bridge built around 1772 by James Brindley for the Duke of Bridgewater. It is constructed of red brick in English Garden Wall bond, with ashlar sandstone dressings. The bridge features a single span segmental arch that rises from splayed abutments, which have wooden rubbing posts at three corners. Ashlar springers support the brick voussoirs beneath an ashlar band. The coped parapet steps down over curved wing walls.
