Description
The Daresbury War Memorial is a tall stone structure located in the north-west corner of the churchyard of the Church of All Saints, which is also a Grade II*-listed building. It stands at the intersection of two paths and features a blind wheel-head cross atop a tapering, octagonal shaft. The quarters of the wheel-head are adorned with fleurs-de-lis carved in low relief. The shaft's moulded foot rests on an octagonal plinth, which is elevated on a four-stepped, octagonal base.
Attached to the faces of the plinth and steps are plaques made from a different, paler stone. The plaque on the south face of the plinth commemorates the men of the parish who lost their lives for their country during the First World War, stating "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY 1914 – 1919." The names of the fallen are inscribed on plaques on four of the plinth's flanking faces.
On the south-facing sides of the top step of the base, there is an inscription that reads "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." Additionally, the south face of the second step of the base includes the inscription "1939 – 1945," with the names of those who fell in the Second World War listed on two flanking plaques. All inscriptions are made with metal letters affixed to the plaques.
