Description
The Schoolhouse, formerly the Schoolhouse and Schoolmaster's House, is a building from 1866, constructed for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster. It is made of brown brick and features grey slate gabled roofs with two diminishing brick chimneys. The house is almost symmetrical, consisting of 1½ storeys and two windows, with the schoolhouse attached to the left side, gabled towards the road. The sandstone window openings are mullioned and transomed, complete with sandstone cills and label-mould lintels. Above the window to the school hall is a datestone featuring the Grosvenor Sheaf and crest. The front and left end have iron diamond-pane casements, and there is a framed and boarded front door. Modern alterations are limited to the rear of the building. The interior has been altered, with the schoolhouse now part of the dwelling. A single stone mounting block is located by the path near the schoolmaster's house. Before its conversion, the schoolhouse served as St Chad's Mission Church.
