Description
Green Farm Cottages is a pair of cottages built in 1859, possibly by Edward Hodkinson for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster. The cottages are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond and feature a gabled grey slate roof. They are one and a half storeys tall and have a T-shaped layout with a projection at the rear. Notable architectural details include deep label-mould lintels and cills made of red sandstone, as well as iron lattice casements set in wooden sub-frames on the front and ends. There are two chimneys, one centrally located on the main ridge and another on the rear ridge, each with four rectangular flues. The front doors are boarded. Inside, there are some four-panel doors and some boarded doors, along with large chamfered pine beams over the parlours. This pair of cottages is a well-preserved example of several similar groups of cottages from the same period on the Eaton estate, designed in a simplified Jacobean style.
