Description

Green Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, possibly of an earlier origin, that was altered in the mid-19th century for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster and extended to the rear in the late 19th century for the 1st Duke. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brown brickwork, with three storeys and five windows, displaying a symmetrical front elevation with projecting bands at the first and second floors. The roof is covered with red tiles. A rear extension is built in hard brown brick, with blue diapering, and linked to the original farmhouse by a timber-framed structure. End gables were altered around 1890, when blue diapering and shaped terracotta copings were added. Numerous chimneys feature round spiral-moulded brick flues. Small-pane iron casements, dating from circa 1850, are found in the original front openings. The rear wing has iron casements with leaded glazing removed. A boarded front door, dating from circa 1890, and a small-panel half-glazed back door are also present. Despite the 19th-century alterations, the farmhouse retains a cohesive appearance. The interior has not been inspected.
