Description
Aldford Lodge Gates, Piers and Wing Walls were constructed around 1877 for the 1st Duke of Westminster, likely designed by Alfred Waterhouse. The gates and gate piers are made of wrought iron, complemented by red sandstone wing walls. The pair of carriage gates features lock rails adorned with scrollwork and the initial 'W', along with ornate dogbars. Each gate has a central panel, side panel, and cresting decorated with closely spaced scrollwork. The square, open piers are embellished with foliated scrollwork and each supports a tapered square lantern that was originally oil lit. The wing walls are built of squared rubble stonework, topped with steep, twice weathered copings.
