Description
The gazebo at Christleton Hall, along with the adjoining 60-meter long south garden wall to Stoneydale, dates from the 17th century, with later rebuilding in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of orange brick in English garden wall bond, with red sandstone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The gazebo, likely from the 18th century, has a square plan, an ashlar base, stone quoins, and a restored embattled parapet. The south face features a restored pointed window with angled glazing bars, while the north face has an inserted doorway. Inside, there is a vaulted ceiling supported by square pilasters and a quarry tile floor. Extending east along the roadside is a contemporary stone wall that has a similar ashlar base and a brick upper section with a half round coping. This wall includes some added brickwork, a ramp leading to the gazebo, and an inserted stone entrance to Stoneydale. These walls may have been part of the gardens of a now-demolished house that belonged to the Bishops of Chester, known to have existed in this area.
