Description
Christleton Hall is a former house that later became a boarding school and is now a Law College. It was built in the mid 18th century for Townsend Ince, with alterations made in the mid 19th century and early 20th century. The building is constructed of white pointed Flemish bond red brick with stone dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. It features a three-storey, four-bay south front with a stone plinth and a moulded stone cornice below a coped blocking course. The left three bays are part of the original house, with the end bays having channelled stone heads above the sashes, one of which has glazing bars. The central bay has a canted three-storey projection with a three-sided Tuscan porch that now has half-glazed panels and narrow sashes above. An added bay to the right features an early 20th-century bow window and later work above. The west front displays four original bays with a triangular pediment over the central two, sashes with channelled heads, and a mid 19th-century verandah supported by iron columns. There are extensive additions to the left. Inside, there are moulded door architraves, some of which are shouldered, two Neo-classical fireplaces, and panelled shutters, although much of the interior has been altered. The listing specifically applies to the original four by three-bay house and excludes all 20th-century additions.
