Description
Ivy House is a house built in the mid-18th century, with some later alterations and additions. It is constructed of Flemish bond orange brick with stone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof, stone ridge, and brick chimneys. The house has a double-pile plan and a symmetrical three-bay front that rises three stories. The end bays contain flush 12-pane sash windows with flat stone heads, shaped tops, and raised keystones. The central bay features a doorcase with a shouldered architrave and triangular pediment, along with fielded reveals and a six-panel door that has a rectangular fanlight with radial glazing bars and a sunrise effect. The blocking course is topped with simple moulded coping.
Inside, the house has six-panel doors throughout, including one with a peephole on the lower floor. There are original archways over the passage and a well staircase that has turned balusters, a shaped pine handrail, and a bracketed open string. The stairwell includes a dado rail supported by plain pilasters. A two-panel door with raised fields and L and H-shaped hinges leads to the cellar. Behind the stairwell, there are rectangular powder rooms on each floor, and some rooms feature simple moulded plaster cornices.
