Description

Stanley House is a late 17th-century house with an extension added in the late 18th century, and later 20th-century alterations and additions. The original house is timber-framed with whitewashed brick nogging set on a painted sandstone plinth, with a red tile roof and a rebuilt external stack at the right end. A two-storey, one-bay extension is built from whitened stone with a slate roof and end stacks. The front of the original house is single-storeyed with an attic, consisting of two bays. The original building has a 6-panel frontage built off a plinth consisting of bedrock. A 20th-century, framed, ledged and braced door is located to the left of centre. The original house’s windows are 20th-century proportioned, 3-light flush casements on the ground floor, with 2-light casements in gabled attic dormers. The extension has sash windows with exposed weight boxes and glazing bars on both floors. Inside, there are exposed ceiling timbers and some original 4-panel doors.
