SJ3174 VILLAGE STREET, Burton Village 794-1/11/6 (North side) 27/12/62 Barn End (Formerly Listed as: BURTON THE RAKE Barn End and Rock Cottage)

Pair of cottages, now single dwelling. C17 or earlier, with extensive later alterations; altered further in late C20. Part timber and cruck framed, with brick nogging; part sandstone; all now whitewashed and rendered; thatched roof with whitewashed stacks. EXTERIOR: single storey, 5 bays, built on a sloping outcrop of rock with ten steps up to the front entrance. Eight panels of large square framing are exposed to right of front door. Front door is 4-panelled with glazed upper panels. Windows are horizontal sliding sashes with glazing bars, two to left of front door; four to right of door, set in alternate panels above mid rail. INTERIOR: timber-frame incorporates cruck trusses in partition walls of the bedroom and present bathroom, and on the line of the firebeam to the living room. Old doors and exposed ceiling timbers throughout.
