Description
Rake Farm Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and restoration around 1975. Originally timber-framed, it is now encased in brown brick on a rubble sandstone plinth, topped with a tile roof featuring brick end stacks.
The cottage has a two-storey, two-bay front. The plinth still shows a blocked 2-light mullioned window. Four steps lead up to a 20th-century framed door that is ledged and braced, set beneath a brick segmental arch with a turning piece. To the right of the door is a replacement 3-light flush casement window with glazing bars, also under a segmental arch. On the first floor, there is a similar window positioned tightly under the eaves, along with a 2-course projecting band at the first-floor level.
Inside, timber-framing was discovered during the restoration in the 1970s, and some wall timbers, beams, and ceiling joists are now exposed.
