Description
The Croft is a cottage from the 17th century, part of a row of three, located on Village Street in Burton Village. It has been altered over time and features a whitened roughcast exterior on sandstone, with a slate roof that has an old red tile ridge and an external stack at the right end. The cottage is single storey with an attic and has a one-window front. Access is through a half-glazed, four-panel door that is reached by six steps. The windows are replacement flush casements with glazing bars, and the upper window is set in a gabled half dormer that has coping and kneelers. A dentilled band runs at the first-floor level. Inside, the ground floor showcases exposed beams and ceiling joists, along with a cottage staircase that has winders. The doors are boarded and hung on strap hinges, and the attic reveals exposed purlins.
