Description

Frodsham Railway Station, along with the former stationmaster's house, was built in 1849. It features Flemish bond brown brick and graded grey slate roofs, standing two storeys tall with a one-storey wing at each end. The design is Jacobethan, with a stone-capped shaped central gable and end gables facing the forecourt. The building has a sandstone plinth-cap and rusticated rock-faced quoins, with some long and short elements around the windows, which are mullioned where there are two lights. Stone cornices are present over the lower windows. The lower windows have three lights, and all upper windows retain their margin-paned casements. The chimneys are diminishing stone-dressed rectangular brick. The side facing the platform has similar detailing, although it features replaced double doors to the booking office. Four of the eight lower storey window lights and three of the six upper storey lights still have margin-paned casements. A shelter on the south platform has been removed, and a 20th-century overbridge is not included in this listing. Overall, this is a substantial building from the mid-19th century that has seen little alteration and remains relatively undamaged.
