Description
The Bear's Paw Hotel is a public house located on Main Street in Frodsham. Originally built as a house in 1632, it was restored in 1903-1904 by architects Douglas and Minshull. The building is constructed from red coursed sandstone rubble and features a small-slate roof. It has two storeys and five windows, with an E-shaped, almost symmetrical design.
The exterior includes a plinth and a moulded band at the first floor. Each bay has a coped gable with kneelers, eaves, and ridge obelisk finials, along with four stone chimneys. The two-storey porch has replaced double doors and an upper storey window that is a three-light mullioned and transomed window with a moulded band above. There are recessed bays on either side of the porch, each containing a three-light mullioned and transomed window on both storeys. The wider end bays feature five-light mullioned and transomed windows. All mullions and transomes are recessed ovolo, with many having been restored. The door lintel is inscribed with "W:L:ANNO:DOMINI:1632." The interior has been altered.
