Description

Nos. 101 and 103 on Main Street are a pair of shops with living accommodation above, built in the early 19th century and featuring late 19th-century shop fronts and first-floor bay windows. The buildings are constructed from Flemish bond brown brick and topped with a grey slate roof. They rise to three storeys and have a symmetrical façade with four windows, plus a narrow bay with a cart entry on the right.

The entrance is a basket-arched recess that contains two replaced shop doors with fanlights in round-arched openings. On either side, there are square bay shop windows with antae, a plain fascia, and a moulded cornice. The shop window for No. 101 on the left has five round-headed two-pane lights on the front and two on each side, while the shop window for No. 103 has been replaced with aluminium.

There is a band at the first floor, and above the doorways are two 12-pane recessed sashes under flat gauged brick arches. Each shop window is topped with a canted bay window that features a basket-arched four-pane sash at the front and round-arched two-pane sashes on the oblique faces. The third storey has recessed six-pane sashes under gauged brick flat arches, with stone cills. There are two flush gable chimneys and one ridge chimney, all made of brick. A 12-pane recessed sash is located on the second storey, and a six-pane sash is above the cart entry on the third storey. The buildings are included for their group value only.
