Description
The Golden Lion is an inn, formerly a hotel, dating from the late Georgian period. It is constructed of rendered brick sitting on a sandstone plinth, topped with a grey slate roof. The building stands three storeys high, featuring two windows facing Main Street and five windows on Church Street. The roof is hipped at the corner where the two streets meet.
On Main Street, there is a recessed porch that contains a door with four flush panels in a moulded frame, flanked by three-light recessed sashes on either side. The side windows consist of a 4-pane, a 16-pane, and another 4-pane sash. The second storey has recessed sashes with 16 panes, while the third storey features sashes with 8 panes.
The longer facade facing Church Street includes two round-arched doorways; one has a door with nine raised panels, and the other has a door with four panels. The lower storey has four 4-pane sashes and one 12-pane sash, while the second storey has three 4-pane sashes. The third storey features four 4-pane sashes and one 8-pane sash. All windows have plain raised surrounds with stone cills, which are all painted.
The left end of the front facing Church Street has a slightly projecting gable adorned with bargeboards and a finial. The interior does not have any visible features of special interest.
