Description
No. 44 High Street is a cottage that combines elements from a likely late 16th century one-room cottage and a 17th century cottage, with a short 20th century link. It features oak frames that have been partly replaced with brick, set on a bedrock outcrop and a sandstone plinth, topped with a grey slate roof. The right wing, which may date from the 16th century, is cased in brick and render, revealing the lower part of a cruck frame and a large square panel frame inside. The left wing, which likely dates from the early 18th century, has small framing that extends 1 meter forward in stone and brick, with a simple oak truss at the front gable end that extends backwards, probably from the late 17th century. The doors and windows have been replaced, and the staircase has been renewed. Internally, the oak framing and roof structure are visible.
