Description
Crown Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse, likely built in the late 17th century, with alterations. It features Flemish bond brown brick and a slate roof. The building is 2½ storeys tall with a symmetrical main block that has three windows, plus a two-storey, one-room wing on the left. The central front gable is above a narrow entrance bay, which is flanked by full-height straight brick pilasters with moulded brick caps just below the gable verges. There are also full-height brick corner pilasters. A three-course band runs along the first floor, and a two-course band is present at the second floor. The entrance includes a six-panel door set in a pedimented porch case, with a nine-pane 19th-century casement window above it on each storey. On either side of the doorway, there are two six-pane casements on the lower storey and one nine-pane casement on each side above. All windows are topped with gauged brick flat arches and have projecting stone cills. The roof features two symmetrically placed brick chimneys along the ridge. Inside, there are various oak beams in the lower storey ceilings, a well-crafted dog-leg staircase with four flights leading to the upper storey and attic, which has wavy splat balusters. The oak roof structure is notable for its wide span, consisting of three purlins and three raking struts for each principal rafter.
