Description
Darnhall Mill is a water-powered mill dated 1829, as indicated on the lintel. It is constructed of whitewashed Flemish-bond brick and features a slate roof. The entrance front has three bays that are symmetrically arranged. There is a central doorway with a wooden lintel that includes the date and a hoist door leading to the first floor. On either side of both floors, there are iron casement windows, each with 6 x 7 panes and stone lintels. The right-hand reveal contains central ground and first floor iron casement windows, also with 6 x 7 panes, situated above the mill race. The left-hand reveal rises to five storeys due to the slope of the land. The basement includes some sandstone courses. The mill retains its iron wheel, which is housed in corrugated iron and is of the overshoot type, likely dating from the late 19th century.
