Description

The cross base in the churchyard of St Chad dates from around 1543 and is made of yellow sandstone. It features a stepped octagonal base that supports the lower section of a cross shaft. The base has two octagonal steps and a square plinth above, with broaches at the angles that support a square shaft, which transitions to an octagon through broaches.
