Description

Bridge Farm Farmhouse, built in 1685 and altered later, is attached to a shippon from the late 18th century. The farmhouse features irregular bond brown brick with stone dressings and has grey slate roofs, which are likely a later addition. It stands two storeys high with a five-bay front arranged a:b:c:b:a. The central entrance has a two-storey gabled porch, and there are large projecting gables at each end. These gables are shaped and pedimented, adorned with stone copings that have reverse scroll designs. The windows are mid-19th century iron casements set in timber sub-frames, with small rectangular panes on the front and end gable, and interlaced Gothick heads at the rear. There is a semi-hexagon bay window at the back with a hipped roof made of shaped slates and lead rolls. The back door consists of six flush beaded panels with a plain rectangular fanlight, while the front door has been replaced with a half-glazed 20th-century version. A later open timber framed gabled porch, designed after John Douglas, is also present. The datestone has been removed since the Provisional List was compiled in 1960. The interior has not been inspected. The attached shippon is two storeys tall, made of brick with a slate roof, featuring camber arched openings, sandstone hinge blocks, boarded doors, and diabolo-shaped vents to the hayloft.
