Description

Hulme Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 17th century and has been altered over time. It features a brick-nogged oak frame with a later upper section made of brick and has a grey slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has five windows on the lower floor. Originally, it was a longhouse with a shippon, which is now used as a kitchen and bedroom on the right side. The windows are small casements of 19th-century vernacular style, and there is a central oak-framed dormer gable. The original boarded door has been replaced. The chimney is located behind the ridge opposite the door, with two additional chimneys on the rear slope towards the left end. Some of the posts and beams are covered in softwood boards.

Inside, there is a lobby entrance and an inglenook featuring a cambered oak bressumer. In the central room, there is an ovolo oak beam on a jowled post at the rear, and a chamfered oak beam in the kitchen. The left room has been reconstructed in keeping with the original style. A stair has been inserted, along with an adjacent hatch that was once used for a ladder entrance to the loft. The framing of the former lower roof is visible upstairs, and some areas still have wattle and daub.
