Description
The Hermitage is an early 19th-century villa, with a later extension and restoration. It is constructed of whitewashed roughcast brick, with a fully glazed porch extension, and has a shallow-pitched hipped slate roof with wide boarded eaves and stuccoed stacks. The property is two stories and a half basement in height, with three-bay fronts.
The entrance front features an added lean-to porch in the centre of the half basement. The front door and the door to the porch are half-glazed. Recessed unequal small-pane sash windows flank the porch. The ground floor windows are paired Gothick glazed lights, each with a label-stopped hoodmould. The rear of the building has a trellised verandah occupying the centre bay of the ground floor, flanked by two-light windows similar to those on the entrance front. A single light Gothick glazed window illuminates the staircase on the left return. The right return features a trellised verandah fronting the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
